Getting The Most From Our Dies Part 5!

Hello! Kerri here with another way to use your YNS Dies:) You can use dies not only to cut out shapes, but also to emboss! Today I used the fabulous Insta Love Polaroid Die Set to create a CAS card.

First tape the die to the area of paper you'd like to emboss with the cutting edges face up away from the paper.

I use the Big Shot for my die cutting/embossing. To emboss I open to Tab 1 and add a cutting plate.

Place the die cut taped to the paper face down with the cutting surface down towards the cutting plate.

Add an embossing mat over the top of your paper.

Then add your second cutting plate.

Run it through the machine to emboss!

I stamped a sentiment from the YNS set Moving Ellie over the raised area and here is my card.

Love that sentiment! Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful Wednesday!

Tips and Tricks with Digis...

Hi All,
This is Sheila from SheLoveShoes blog.
I'm here today with a little tip for colouring or filling in backgrounds when using digital stamps.
After printing my digi on to card stock, I always print the same image again onto regular copy paper at the same size as the one I intend to colour. I will then colour in the card stock image using Copic Markers. I will then die cut the image using any die and I will keep it in place while I proceed to fill in the background.
The photo above shows the die cut image, how I cut around the secondary image to make a mask and adhered the mask with removable adhesive to protect the coloured image.
I then used Tim Holts Soft Sky distress ink, sponge applicator and a cloud like shape to create the clouds in the background. You can see the result below.
To make the grass, I tare a couple of sticky notes to resemble the small hills and valleys of a meadow and adhered them to the image again. I used Tim Holts Peeled Paint distress ink to make the grass colour.

Heres the finished image coloured in.
By leaving the die in place, it also acts as a mask and creates a nice white frame on the finished piece.

Getting the Most from Our Dies - Part 4

Hi all! Maureen here today with part 4 of our mini-series... Getting the Most out of YNS Dies! I've shot a video:

In case you don't have time for the video, I basically show you 3 techniques for how to stack your diecuts for interesting effects. Technique 1 is off-setting for a shadow effect. You take 2 of the same diecut in a dark and light tone, and stack them slightly offset with the darker diecut on the bottom to create a shadow:

shadow {Fancy Vine die set}

Technique 2 is stacking multiple diecuts perfectly aligned to help them stand out, in this case, help 1 patterned paper stand out against another patterned paper:

stand out {Must Have Borders Die Set One}

Technique 3 is stacking different colors so there’s a difference when you look at the diecuts from the side. I show 2 examples of this – a sun done in yellows and oranges:

colors {Whatnot Seasons Set One die set}

And a rainbow effect:

rainbow {Heart Doily die set, Kup Topper stamp set}

And here’s the finished card using the rainbow of diecuts: KupToppers4

I hope that’s given you some ideas how you can stack diecuts for more interest and that helps you get more out of your dies! Thanks for joining me! ~Maureen

Introducing Our April Guest!

Hello! We have another very special guest joining us this month at Your Next Stamp:) Please give a warm welcome to the very talented Tracy Penney!

Hi, my name is Tracy and I am a wife to a loving and supportive husband and mom to 2 wonderful and creative young girls. I work full time for a busy insurance company, so my crafting hours are usually crammed into a few moments before bed and whenever I can grab some “me time” on weekends. I have been making cards for almost 10 years; however I only started creating with stamped images in the last 3 years. Now, you will rarely see a card of mine without a stamped image. I love to play with paper, making cards, layouts and other paper projects for family and friends. I do consider myself a paper crafting geek!

I am so excited to be the YNS Guest Designer for the month of April. I love paper crafting and I am looking forward to sharing some of my work with you this month!

Tracy made this ADORABLE easel Post-It Note holder using the super sweet Ellie Loves Sunflowers:

Sooooo pretty!!!! I just love it! Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful day:)

Hello! My name is Kerri Michaud and I’m a stay at home mom to 3 kiddos ages 7, 5, and 2! We currently live in Apopka, Florida which is just outside of Orlando. I got into stamping about 2 years ago after I had my first Stampin’ Up party. I was instantly hooked LOL! Before then I had dabbled in scrapbooking, crocheting, sewing, quilting, jewelry making, and whatever other crafty whims that came my way. I think I have found my true passion in stamping and card making though! I also LOVE to make altered items and little gift boxes, etc. I am soooo excited and honored to be part of the Senior DT for Your Next Stamp! I ADORE these darling images and just love working with Karen and the rest of the DT!

Angel Rivera

Angel Rivera
Designer
My name is Angel and I’ve been stamping for over 8 years! I also scrapbook from time to time, but prefer making cards or other little projects. I try to escape to my craft room as often as my 3 boys (ages 16, 12 and 10) and all of their extra activities allow! My husband of 19 years, Derek, is supportive of my crafty time because he knows it makes me happy. I also work full time with a wealth management company and am a licensed life and health insurance agent. I’m so excited to be working with Karen and ALL of the YNS crew!

Bonnie Kohane

Bonnie Kohane
Designer
I am a second generation SAHM, which i call SAHGM. ("G" for grandma). I have been watching my grandkids for 7 yrs. I am also going through a second generation of crafting, i have a scrapbook that is almost 60yrs old filled with all of my favorite memories. I've been featured in Stamper's Sampler..more of an artsy card magazine...but my style tends to be "cute". Card crafting isn't the only thing i like to do, if i am not working on cards, you'd see me working at my sewing machine, crocheting or trying any new craft technique out there.. i love a challenge..which brings me to say..i can't wait to see what you all create for the YNS challenges!

Brianna Loeffelbein

Brianna Loeffelbein
Designer

I am 26 years old, I am married to a wonderful supportive husband of four years and we have an amazing two year old son Jayden. We live in a small northen town called Brainerd which is located in the state of Minnesota. For the past 7 years, I have been working for our Local UPS Store as store manager and I just love it. When I am not working I am spending time with my family and friends and of course crafting! I have been passionate about crafting my entire life. My main love of course, is Paper Crafting, specifically card making. I also like to sew, bead and crochet and teach others how to show thier creative sides. I am so honored and privileged to be joining such and awesome group of ladies here at YNS, I can’t wait to get started and share all my creations with you!!

Deborah Anton

Deborah Anton
Designer
My name is Deborah Anton and I am a stay at home mom to 11 year old twin boys and a wife of 12 years to a patient, loving, and awesome Army Officer. I am originally from California but currently live in Tennessee. I keep pretty busy just on the home-front with my active boys playing different sports, moving every few years, and volunteering with the Army. But in the little "me" time I do get, I love to do anything crafty and hide in my craft room!! I started out 11 years ago designing and creating jewelry for 2 large retailers, which led me to having my own business; until 8 years ago when I met designer paper and glue. A new love relation began! I am so excited to be part of the YNS team and work alongside so many talented ladies!

Jen Roach

Jen Roach
Designer
My name is Jennifer and I live in Ontario, Canada with my husband and 3 year old daughter. I'm a scientist by day and a paper crafter by night ---or really just about any free time I have including my lunch breaks at work!!

I started out in paper crafting back in about 2002 when my Mom and I took a scrapbooking class together. A few years later I decided to give card making a try and it's been my passion ever since. I'm the world's slowest scrapbooker so the instant gratification of card making really won me over. Over the years I have used more and more stamping in my designs and I love learning and trying new techniques and styles.

I would probably define myself as a "scrappy stamper". I *LOVE* patterned paper and most of my cards have lots of it with added layered on embellishments and textures. My cards may not be easy to mail but boy are they pretty!!

Other than crafting, I love to play tennis as you can probably tell from my blog address:

Julie Elak

Julie Elak
Designer
Hi, I am Julie Elak, aka "The Last Minute Crafter". My days are kept busy working full time and running after my children. I use almost every free minute to craft, my purse is typically full of copics and a pari of scissors. I began stamping well over 10 years ago, but my love for paper crafting found renewed energy once I discovered the online community in 2009. I started a blog on a whim and am so happy I did. I have made many friendships and found so much support and encouragement on-line.

Laura Nehring

Laura Nehring
Designer
My name is Laura, and I am SO excited and honored to be joining the Your Next Stamp Team! I am a former preschool/kindergarten teacher, now stay at home mom to 3 energetic kiddos - 5 year old twin girls, and a 4 year old boy. I met my husband the year I graduated from highschool, and we've been together ever since. We are enjoying life in sunny southern California, where we were both born and raised.

I started scrapbooking in 2006 when I was pregnant with my girls, which led me to stamping and cardmaking a few years later. The point of no return was when I purchased my first Copic marker at a local scrapbook expo 2 years ago... now I'm hooked! I LOVE to color, and it's how I unwind at the end of a busy day! My card making style is fairly clean and simple... I like for the images to be the focus of my creations, so I don't do a lot of embellishing. In addition to Copics, I am also completely obsessed with Kraft Cardstock, and polka dots! I am really looking forward to being a part the YNS team!

Nicole Nastali

Nicole Nastali
Designer
Hi! I’m a former kindergarten teacher who is now a stay at home mom to my 2 little girls. My hubby is supportive of all my crafty pursuits and that says a lot about him because I love all kinds of crafts from making headbands, bows, & designing dresses to making party favors and now cards!! I am a newcomer on the stamping scene and have met so many wonderful crafting friends already thanks to the common joy of card making and coloring with Copic markers. I would color all day long if my family would let me…!! Lol! My favorite colors are the blue greens (affectionately called the BG’s) and I try to sneak them into every card I make!! I love to get crafty with my girls (ages 8 & 6) and let them color images right along side me. It’s a fun hobby for us all to share!! A sleepover stamp from YNS was one of my very first stamp purchases & I’ve been in love with Fhiona & friends ever since!! I’m thrilled to be joining the YNS Team with this group of fabulously talented ladies & I can’t wait to share my cards with you!!

Ruza Rebel

Ruza Rebel
Designer
I'm a former Administrative Assistant turned stay-at-home mom to a very special young lady. I've been crafting since I was a young child, and when I became a SAHM I turned to crafting to stay busy. Staying busy making cards, altering items, and just having fun with paper is an amazing hobby that I truly fell in love with. I'm very grateful that I have a husband that supports me, that my son loves seeing my creations as well, and my special young lady enjoys getting into my crafts. I truly love the challenge of making something beautiful with the various products available to the crafting industry. That is why I am super excited to share my projects featuring the amazing YNS Digital Stamps, and I look forward to seeing your creations as well!

Sheila Veitch

Sheila Veitch
Designer
I was borne and grew up in a small town Canada. I started paper crafting in the fall of 2007, when I saw a stamping catalogue one of my friends had laying around her home. I took one look through the catalogue and was so excited because I knew I had found my favorite hobby at last! Making Cards. I’m a natural born artist, I completed a graphic arts program in college and worked as an artist for several years a life time ago. I currently work as an office administrator in Toronto where I live with my dog Georgie. Though I absolutely love my job, this hobby is my creative outlet. I believe, the cards I make are like little works of art, expressed from the heart. I find that when I’m making a card for a specific person, I am thinking about that person through the whole process. And that in itself can be the gift.
